Well, it's been a while and I actually didn't spend much time on the app all this while. But today I decided that I'm going to spend at least couple of hours on it. And I did. Kind of solved couple of big issues too. Maybe not completely, but progress still. So the summary is I was facing issue with deployment of the database. It's sqlite db and I didn't know where to place it and how ty place it. So after lot of googling and some forum searching I found a way to deploy data files on Sailfish. After applying and troubleshooting couple of issues here n there I got the database working. But the problem now is, it works only when the app is run from sdk. When I launch the app from inside, no DB. Well atleast the role are going to the device. Teething issues. Another problem is the UI is all screwed up. Update: On Wed 2016-11-08 I gave in and visited the nearest Airtel Care Store. Thankfully the people there were very helpful and they knew the exact problem. So they gave me a 1800-xxx-xxx number for televerification. Once it's done they asked me for ID proof which I did not have at the time. But I visited them in evening and submitted the ID Proof. After this I was given a new SIM Card. This got activated in about two hours and the phone service was started. The SMS service was started after 24 Hours.  Hush! That was an experience. So this proved that Airtel's OnCall Customer Care sucks but the Airtel Care stores might be the ray of hope. Well, lets see how the postpaid services work out for a while. Update: Finally after couple more follow-ups the refund was initiated and delivered to my account three days ago. It was interesting to see the lack of processes at Foodpanda and it does not give me much confidence. Mainly because they depend most on their CC Execs to keep track of things and the requests do get missing as I found out with my refund. For last few years computerization has become common in all government departments and we can do a number of tasks online.  Last few days I had different encounters with a few government systems here around. I'll summarize my experience as below.  1. Online Tenant Registration I'm living at present in a rented apartment. Recently I was looking at a new vehicle purchase and one condition was the tenant should be registered at nearest police station. Being lazy, I looked up if there is anything online for this. I was using Windows 10 for last six months. But then all of a sudden the wifi died. And no fix to it too. So I just dumped it. Went back to Windows 7. And now my Bluetooth is working too.

MQTT is an IoT protocol used for transporting small amount data in a structured way between IoT peripherals. The protocol is simple - all IoT peripherals are connected over LAN/WiFi and they publish/subscribe to a MQ Broker. There are a variety of clients and servers that support various versions of this protocol. The latest version was 3.0.1 at the time of writing this. The protocol is simple in that the overhead is minimum, the data persistence and delivery QoS is assured by the server, and there are various levels of QoS which help assume the optimal strategy. The publishers publish to a topic to MQ Server over persistent TCP/IP connections. The subscribers subscribe to topics and are assured latest message delivery ASAP. MQTT client library typically has about 6-8 source files and the protocol overhead is only a few bytes, this has made it popular.

Sometimes things are going as usual and all of a sudden something fails. And as it happens usually the failure is unanticipated. And then starts thee scrambling phase where you start looking for alternatives. And ways to overcome this loss. And maybe if you are like me, you start to analyse the failure and try to understand where you failed. So to start with, my laptop died last week. It was working fine and as it happens with all electronics, it just stopped. It wouldn't start. So I sent it to a nearby repair guy, who told me that the power circuit is dead. He will try replacing the burnt IC's. Few days later I rang him up for updates and he said that the main board is dead. The replacement IC's also burned up. And so my laptop was gone to death, since I don't think there's any way to get a replacement board since the system was four year old. I recently and grudgingly upgraded my cellular internet to 3G. Actually 2G sufficed for most of my needs which was basic document editing and emails. Add a bit of web browsing and Facebook, Twitter. All that was doable on 2G and if I used my cellphone - should say smartphone, but it's WP7.5, and I like calling phones as cellphones - as a hotspot then with some patience I can even get some work done. What I can't do is access online banking. By the time the applets load the session expires. So back to 3G, the first thing I noticed was the speed. I'm not a speed junkie but the speed made me find a speed test app and check it out. And by God, I got 5 freaking mbps down and 1.6mbps up. I have never browsed web at such speeds. Things snap up like lightening and coupled with IE the whole browsing experience felt like turbocharged. Another area was the Facebook and twitter integration. What is it? Staying at the top with the best in the class, with the latest of the breed? Perhaps not best but certainly latest. Now comest the tricky question. Are you at the cutting edge? Oh My God! Me? Man! Are you... Naah not me. It's simple actually - it costs too much for what it's worth. The latest is very costly - and so many reasons. Most of us have all these reasons and we are not supermen to fly the sky and have X-Ray eyes. So what do we do? We try to stay updated on what is latest. And we can definitely look forward to have the opportunity to bag something which was latest not far back. We usually have our budget rigs with not so latest software. E.g. Let's consider a scenario where I have a database on a Server. I want to process the data in database from client. What are the possible solutions? 1. I can write a web application and upload it to the server and use server side scripting to process the data in Database. 2. I write a client application to my taste and use it to access server database remotely. 3. Lets say I'm a security freak and I don't mind writing tons and tons of code and I'm perfectly content in doing things in the complex manner, so I write a client server application where my client is with me. My server is with the database. My client connects to my Server through an encrypted tunnel and sends requests and gets reports. My server can directly access my database and processes my client's requests. Can there be any other scenario? It's difficult any way I say it. And I know there are many more from where I come who frown on me. But I made myself not care. I just moved ahead leaving behind a wake which contained all that I had discarded. It contained things, memories and people. I set myself these impossible goals and I labored to make them come true. I wend on and on not caring those who needed me, who cared for me. I was selfish. Selfish for my goals. And I didn’t even blink an eyelid when I was questioned. I had a purpose. And I expended enormous amount of myself to achieve something.
