Point Element

So it was a long time since I had a good design on my blog. For a while I had left it with some green shade of generic style. But since I am back to writing, thanks to some serious coding/managing/mangling/de-mangling experience from my latest project, I thought I would go ahead and dress up this blog nicely. So I was looking for a simple template that would make it all look a bit stylish without any overhead. So I landed at the first link in a google search for "Simple blogger templates" at btemplates.com/tag/simple.  From there I looked about for something simple. And I ended up on this Metro style template. I just tried to replace the XML into Bloggers design template window and after applying it, my blog looked really nice. Then I spent 10-15 minutes cleaning it out, removing unnecessary stuff etc and I have this beautiful blog now, I am feeling good. And I guess, feeling good is all life's about!!!

I have been working on openSSL integration for some time. And its been quite some experience. I knew openSSL by name only. I was aware of SSL certificates - you know how sometimes things fail when you get some invalid certificate error. So I have learned a lot about both OpenSSL and authentication. I have also learned about public key encryption. But this has not been easy. I got stuck at almost every step. The problem was OpenSSL looks easy to use and as long as you are generating some certificates and using them with your web hosts. Look towards integration with existing software and then you need to take some easy chill pill. Basically I didn't even wanted to touch openSSL. I wanted to use Qt's inbuilt openSSL support and be done with it. But the requirements changed midway and Qt just couldn't extend far enough. I tried everything till inheriting QSslCertificate but it just wasn't designed to serve our requirement. So after going through some OpenSSL research ...

Okay! Perhaps the last one didn't actually look beautiful, more gory so! Well, I am not one to be satisfied with that so I went ahead and looked for latest versions of the components.

Stumbled across this nice conky script and a matching wallpaper has me smiling like an Idiot!

Been using docky for almost a week. But it didn't work much! Kept crashing half the times. So my verdict is it's not stable enough. Or it doesn't like KDE. What now? I'm sticking with AWN which by the way becomes the most used program by me on regular basis - except Need for Speed Most Wanted .

It looks nice, isn't it? I wanted to try Docky for a long time. But since it's very closely integrated in Gnome 3.0 / Gnome Do that kept me from trying it on. But today I was feeling very adventurous. So I installed it and spent some time adjusting it to fit my needs.

These days it's common for us to have at least couple of OS'es on our PC's / Notebooks. Those of us who are geeker (hey! No offence non-geeks! Being a simple user is perhaps painless experience considering we geeks screw up our workstations!) usually have multiple OS'es lying around.  Many people who dabble in multiple OS'es use virtual machines but when you need to see the close interaction of an OS with hardware or when the VM Performance doesn't appeal you or when the situation demands a hardware installation, you're needed to install the OS on the desktop/ Notebook. 

Getting Philosophical Aren't We? Whatever! Finally I thought I needed to spend some time to clean up this place, order things around and try to make it look better and at the same time different. I hope the new layout, the pages and the content etc look better than ever. To my eyes it does, but I don't trust my eyes - especially with [-4.5,-4.5] spectacles filtering everything that reaches my brain.  BTW last night I saw my Laptop screen without spects and it looked remarkably flat!(No kidding here!) As change is my nature I don't think this layout will stay this way for more than a month. But then again I have lots of things going around that hog my time. So it might stay this way for quiet some time. I certainly hope so! Anyway I hope this doesn't completely suck(Fingers Crossed). 

Hi, After so many days, I got bored of conky, changed the wallpaper, changed the AWN theme, plugin set and now I've a new desktop. 

    Even better! Added AWN. Removed the Analog Clock Widget on Desktop. Got the System Tray back with AWN's Systray applet. (You would notice there wasn't a system tray in last build!!!) Kudos To AWN Developers!!!

Ingredients: Widgets on Desktop : Analog Clock Widgets on Panel : Menu and Show Desktop Wallpaper: Abstract-RayOfLight. Desktop Theme : Air No System Tray or Any Annoying Notifications. Extremely clean.

I'm freezing my Ubuntu Customization and Beautification Project today. I've done many interesting things to my Ubuntu Distro to get this beautiful desktop. I've obtained the optimum setting. Whatever I do forward from this point of time would probably mess up this. So I'm calling it a day. The only feel I have right now is AWE at how Linux lets us customize everything. And trust me you can't do this kind of thing with other Proprietary software. Here I'll summarize the customizations. Many of these we have already covered before in this post.

Yes! They say there's no end to modding and you can get to some very interesting ends if you're the wanderer of the crypts. Geez! That's some term! Wanderer of the Crypts. Anyway, I went on experimenting with Ubuntu's look and feel and within couple of weeks I have a fully functional "AWN" on. I've switched from Gnome-Panel. Also I've switched to "emerald" for window decoration. The GTK theme New Wave remains my favorite. Oh yeah, and I stumbled upon a great wallpaper pack for ubuntu. Used it generously. About AWN, it took me quite a while to set it up. Simply the number of applets available are so many and it takes time to get to the right combination. And sometimes even the stock applets doesn't satisfy your need. You need to apply some creativity to your use. E.g. I've two cpu frequency controllers present for my Dual Core Processor. Also your usage pattern decides what you want on AWN's Task Manager space. I've Google Chr...
